Well, that’s it. No more mince pies and no more leftover turkey – the festive season is officially over and it’s back to the drudgery of everyday life. But don’t despair; below you’ll find a selection of new horror trailers to brighten up even the most dismal January morning. Proving that we know our audience, we’re starting with Sheldon Wilson’s SHARK KILLER, about a gem-swallowing killer shark! ‘The services of shark killer Chase Walker have been engaged by his brother, Jake, the head of a South African crime ring. The gig—kill the black-finned shark that swallowed a valuable diamond during a gang transaction. Enlisted to keep an eye on Chase is Jake’s girlfriend, Jasmine. But Chase and Jasmine’s relationship deepens with the threats from a rival crime boss: Bring the diamond to him or die. Now, it’s crime boss against crime boss, brother against brother, and man against nature as Chase strives to rescue Jasmine, save his own life, and seize the greatest catch of his career.’
It’s Damien Leone’s FRANKENSTEIN VS. THE MUMMY. Nuff said! ‘Dr. Victor Frankenstein and Egyptologist Naihla Khalil are both professors at a leading medical university. Victor’s latest grisly “experiment” is the re-animated corpse of a sadistic madman, and Naihla’s most recent find is the cursed mummy of an evil pharaoh. When the two monsters face-off in an epic showdown, no one is safe from the slaughter. Can the murderous rampage be stopped and the carnage contained before it’s too late?’
From UK writer/director Mark Murphy, here’s AWAITING.
Hm, this one sounds intriguing. Critics are saying good things about David Robert Mitchell’s IT FOLLOWS. ‘For 19-year-old Jay (Maika Monroe, AT ANY PRICE), the fall should be about school, boys, and weekends at the lake. Yet, after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, she suddenly finds herself plagued by nightmarish visions; she can’t shake the sensation that someone, or something, is following her. As the threat closes in, Jay and her friends must somehow escape the horrors that are only a few steps behind.’
Here’s the first trailer for David Blair’s horror/thriller THE MESSENGER. 'The Messenger centers on Jack (Robert Sheehan), a young man who has been in and out of secure units all his life, given drugs to try to shut out his visions of the dead. He becomes unwillingly embroiled in the unfinished business of Mark, a journalist brutally murdered in the local park, and his television presenter wife, Sarah, to whom he’s desperate to say one last goodbye.
Jack finds himself getting closer to Sarah, obsessed with passing on Mark’s message. Discovering hidden secrets and lies finally pushes the fragile Jack over the edge, but there is hope when his estranged sister, Emma, gets in touch. Jack starts to remember the past they shared together, and as the memories come flooding back, he starts to confront the truth about the death of his father.'
We absolutely loved Richard Bates Jr.’s 2012 debut feature EXCISION. His next film, SUBURBAN GOTHIC, is out On Demand 30 January. In the interim, here’s the trailer. ‘Raymond has a prestigious MBA, but he can’t find work. He can channel the paranormal, but chatting with a cute girl mystifies him. Kicked out of his big city apartment, Raymond returns home to his overbearing mother, ex-jock father, and beer-bellied classmates. But when a vengeful ghost terrorizes the small town, the city-boy recruits Becca, a badass local bartender, to solve the mystery of the spirit threatening everyone’s lives.’
When will scientists learn that attempting to bring the dead back to life is never a good idea? Writer/director Tyler Graham Pavey’s THE PHOENIX PROJECT is available On Demand 16 January. ‘Four young scientists work to craft a machine to reanimate deceased organisms. As the project develops, the machine exceeds their wildest expectations, creating boundless possibilities that challenge the very nature of human existence. However, success with this experiment comes at a price, as ulterior motives and reckless abandon lead to consequences none of them could predict. As their time and resources fade, this team of visionary scientists must face the realities of the task they have set out for themselves, bringing the dead back to life.’
